35. How many hours/day and what months do the
children attend school? Describe the school
environment.
The children do not attend school. There is a church-run
school nearby. School runs 9:00-2:30 (5-1/2 hours/day) from
late September through end of July with a 15 day break in
February.
36. What type of health care do you receive?
There is one clinic three hours away. We go there for
emergencies, when the kids are very ill. Zenebu went to the
clinic for problems with her last pregnancy. We discovered the
importance of health care when our last child was born. The
clinic we go to is Holeta Health Center run by the Finnish
Mission.
37. What form of birth control do you use?
None. We're very willing to use birth control but don't know
how and have no source of information or supply.
38. Does your family feel safe?
We are not threatened by crime, but are very threatened by
the economy and (our crops) by nature .
39. Do you lock your door at night?
No.
40. Have you ever been robbed?
No.
41. Do you do anything to protect yourselves?
We have just a stick if needed and a dog.
Family Leisure
42. Describe what you do during your leisure time.
We have no leisure time, except for the children playing at
home and the coffee ceremony (3 drinkings) when neighbors
come to chat for 20 minutes. There is a religious gathering once
a month, called Mahber, one for women, one for men. It is held
in the name of a saint.
